Where the Great Sand Sea meets still salt lakes
Fifty kilometres from the Libyan border, Siwa is an island of date palms and freshwater springs in the Great Sand Sea. Mudbrick villages glow at dusk, salt lakes hold the sky like glass, and evenings end around a fire under one of the darkest skies in Egypt. We open its most private corners to a handful of guests at a time.
- Salt Lakes. Float effortlessly in turquoise brine pools, then rinse off in a sweet-water spring steps away.
- Great Sand Sea. Private 4x4 crossings into towering dunes, with sandboarding and a hot spring hidden in the desert.
